Stonework for Facades

Carved stonework is beautiful and natural stone is renowned for standing the test of time. However, when it gets damaged, weather-eroded or delaminated, replacing stone masonry can prove difficult and expensive.

Using the correct repair methods is absolutely essential to avoid causing lasting damage to the building. At Facades, we have a close working relationship with the highly skilled traditional masons at Teesdale Architectural Stone. Together, we provide repairs and replacements that preserve the original look and feel of the building.

Facades are a member of the Stone Federation, which is part of Heritage England (the Historic Buildings and Monuments Commission for England).

Our masons are fully qualified to use traditional lime mortars. We’re accredited so clients have the confidence it will be applied properly, giving a flawless result.

Restoring Stonework

As part of replacing stonework, we source the correct geological match to ensure the building is restored to prime condition. This needn’t break the bank. When required, we can do sampling to ensure we replicate the consistency of the original mortars. This involves having the stone analysed to see its makeup. We then design a mortar that matches the original, and ensure the new material is compatible to the original.

This is a complex process and takes a lot of care. It’s worth spending the time and consideration as further issues can be caused if the replacement stone isn’t a good match.
