The Exchange Building Middlesbrough which had laid empty and was in a poor state of repair and had been purchased by the Property Developers Jomast Developments. Facades has an excellent working relationship and been involved in previous Jomast projects going back some 25 years, where pleased to be instructed for their latest project.


Facades consulted with Middlesbrough Council Economic Development officer to gain consent for the restoration works. Sympathetic site cleaning trails using an initial clean using the Doff Superheated steam clean to remove all the loose surface contamination followed by a secondary clean removing carbon contamination using the Torc Vortex medium clean. Facades are approved to the Rosette accreditation provided by Stonehealth Ltd. for these cleaning systems which are recognised throughout the restoration and conservation industry. Along with restoration samples to the severely damaged feature stonework using a bespoke blend of Masons Mortars St. One restoration mortar.

On gaining approval the main building Facades was sympathetically cleaned and a programme of restoration to the featured stone works was undertaken. The works completed over a period of ten weeks by Facades teams of highly qualified tradesmen in the field of building restoration/conservation. with special attention with protection of the public.

The works were competed to the client’s expectation giving the building an visual aesthetic uplift to the Historic area of Middlesbrough fitting for the image of the new usage of  refurbished building.
